Rasmegh is the Managing Director of SawasdeeShop and the co-founder of DeeMoney, Thailand’s most successful and rapidly expanding cross-border payments firm. SawasdeeShop was a market leader in the VOIP telecommunications industry before its shift into the payments and fin-tech arena. The company served over two million ex-pat, migrant, and business clients with cost-effective phone solutions before transitioning.
In 2014, Rasmegh concluded that the telecommunications industry was dying due to OTT competitors disrupting the market, such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. Rasmegh and Aswin Phlaphongphanich, the CEO of Sawasdeeshop, initiated talks with the requisite licenses with the Bank of Thailand in 2015 to enter this market. At that time, the location was off-limits to businesses that were not banks. It took SawasdeeShop two years of grit and determination to obtain licensing, but in 2017, they were finally given the required licenses for international transfers and payments. Such licenses allowed them to process transactions in several different currencies.
