Sharon Haward-Laird

General Counsel

BMO Financial Group

Sharon is an innovative leader responsible for setting the direction of BMO’s North American Treasury & Payment Solutions (TPS) Commercial Banking business and overseeing the creation, distribution, and maintenance of TPS’s Treasury Management, Payments, Trade Finance, Corporate Card, and Liquidity Solutions. Sharon motivates her team to rethink the commercial banking digital experience and the payment platform to better adapt to the changing preferences of their clientele. She has been instrumental in launching an innovative payment hub, a mobile app with multi-factor biometric identification, and robotics process automation after successfully advocating to expand the bank’s technological investment in payments. Sharon has succeeded in fields where women are underrepresented at the executive level.

Sharon now mentors others while advocating for workplace diversity and flexible scheduling issues. Sharon’s advocacy for eradicating the stigma of mental illness and her openness about its effect on her own family are both motivating and illuminating examples of her active participation in BMO’s Mental Health program. In addition to her current role as Vice-Chair of Interac Corp’s board of directors and board member of Moneris, she is also actively involved with Payments Canada and was recently appointed Chair of the new Interac Innovation Board.
